Oletteko koskaan miettineet, kuinka Yoni Ichtertzin luotsaaman 4 Delin hodaribaarin hot dogit pärjäisivät maailmalla? LE COOL kuvitteli mestaruusottelun:
Erä 1: Nathan’s vastaan 4 Deli
Nathan’s Famous silmäilee vastustajaansa vasemmasta nurkasta. Hodarikauppias tuntee arvonsa, ensimmäinen kioski kun tuli perustettua jo 1916. Vaikka nykyisin pyöritään pörssissäkin, alkuperäinen liiketila on edelleen pystyssä ja ruokkii legendan perässä matkaavia newyorkilaisia ja turisteja. Nathan’s on varma, että päihittää suomalaishaastajan pelkällä brändiarvolla. Mitä vielä, 4 Deli tanssahtelee lähelle ja näpäyttää napakasti. Niin se on, jättiläisellä on savijalat! Nathan’sin massatuotantonakeilla ei ole mitään jakoa 4 Delin raakamakkaroita vastaan. Kyrsät tehdään paikan päällä parhaista raaka-aineista mausteista tinkimättä. Tyrmäysvoitto!
Erä 2: Bubbledogs vs. 4 Deli
Bubbledogs astuu kehään. Lontoolainen on vain pari vuotta vanhempi, joten ottelusta voi odottaa tasaväkisempää. Bubbledogs näyttää itsevarmalta, mutta tarkemmin katsottuna erottuu pientä hermostunutta vapinaa. Johtuukohan se 4 Delin Darrenista, maanmiehestä joka on mennyt jakelemaan makkarareseptejään suomalaisille? Bubbledogs ottaa löysät pois ja läväyttää nimikkoliikkeensä: hodareita samppanjan kera! 4 Deli käy kanveesissa ottamassa pienen hetken lukua mutta kääntää ottelun voitokseen pienillä 25 cl:n olutannoksilla, jotka maksavat vain 2,50 euroa. Hienostelu häviää käytännöllisyydelle! 4 Deli voittaa erän tuomariäänin.
Erä 3: Crif Dogs vs. 4 Deli
Viimeinen erä käydään jälleen New Yorkissa eikä nyt leikitä. Crif Dogs, Ison Omenan ykköshodari ei epäröi vaan käy päälle kuin Käpylän Pyöveli. Chihuahua, Philly Tubesteak, Morning Jersey… eikö se menu lopu koskaan? Mutta siitäkään ei ole 4 Delille vastusta. Tampereen oma poika pistää peliin parhaansa: Nygrenin, hodarien herttuan, jossa makkara ja merenelävät laulavat yhdessä hoosiannaa. Täydellinen tyrmäysvoitto!

Round 1: Nathan’s vs. 4 Deli
Nathan’s Famous eyes up his opponent from the left corner. The original hot dog purveyor knows it has more than enough notches on its belt (98, to be precise) as the original nickel hot dog stand opened in Coney Island already in 1916. Despite Nathan’s Famous being a public company, the original location’s still up and running. Nathan’s sure that it’s gonna win the Finnish newcomer by being a cult brand. But no, 4 Deli dances close and delivers a shift blow. Oh, how the mighty fall! Nathan’s mass-produced wieners are no match for 4 Deli’s fabulous raw sausages. They are made on the premises with the best meat and spices to die for. It’s a knock-out win!
Round 2: Bubbledogs vs. 4 Deli
Bubbledogs steps on the ring. The Londoner is only a couple of years senior to 4 Deli, so the match should be more even. Bubbledogs seems cocky but, looking closely, its hands tremble. Is it because 4 Deli has Darren, a fellow Englishman bringing his juicy sausage recipes to Finns? Bubbledogs goes for the big guns and its signature move: hot dogs with champagne! 4 Deli goes out for a count, just for a second, but turns the tables with a brilliant jab: petite (25 cl) glasses of beer that cost only 2.50 euros. Practicality over luxury! 4 Deli wins this round by judges’ decision!
Round 3: Crif Dogs vs. 4 Deli
For the final round, it’s back to New York. Kid gloves are off! Crif Dogs, the Big Apple’s No. 1 Dog doesn’t hesitate and pulls out all the stops. Chihuahua, Philly Tubesteak, Morning Jersey… is there no end to their menu? But they still got nothing on 4 Deli. Tampere’s own throws in the mightiest of blows: Nygren, the ultimate hot dog with lobster and shrimp mayo and pickled gherkin. The unholy matrimony of surf and turf absolutely to die for. Another KO win!
Now, it really wasn’t a contest, after all, was it?
4 Deli now serves also breakfast hot dogs with bacon and a fried egg for only five euros until 11 am.
