Samoihin aikoihin meikäläisen pyhäinpäivän eli vainajien muistopäivän ja Yhdysvalloista ympäri maailmaa levinneen halloweenin kanssa Latinalaisessa Amerikassa vietetään kuolleiden päivää, Día de los Muertos -juhlaa. Erityisen suosittu tämä pääkallotunnuksinen juhlapäivä on Meksikossa, missä myös kuolleille pannaan tarjolle ruokia. Kurpitsatalolla on kuitenkin tänään tarjolla ruokaa ennen kaikkea eläville. Karnevaalihenkisessä Frida y Diego -ravintolassa voi myös muistaa edesmenneitä rakkaitaan vaikkapa kynttilöin. Menu sisältää luonnollisesti meksikolaishenkisiä herkkuja. Kaikki ruoka on gluteenitonta, ja annokset on mahdollista saada myös vegaanisina. Myös juomiin on panostettu. Raahaapa siis luusi Kurpitsatalolle ja täytä kupusi teemapäivän herkuilla!
All Saints’ Day, which goes by various names, is celebrated in Finland on the first Saturday after 30 October – which this year is 5 November. But, as we Finns tend to celebrate everything on the eve of the big day, this one’s on Friday. In reality, All Saints’ Day isn’t much celebrated in Finland; rather it’s a day for people to quietly remember those who have passed away, maybe burn some candles and visit the cemetery. However, Día de los Muertos is a whole different game. The holiday, especially popular in Mexico, is much more colorful and vivid. And in that spirit, a pop-up restaurant called Frida y Diego is set up at Kurpitsatalo for one day this Friday. With the skull as the symbol, food has a big role in this fiesta – and it is even offered to the dead. However, at Kurpitsatalo’s restaurant, the food is mainly aimed at the living but you can still light a candle for the deceased, for example. The menu includes Mexican-style treats. All food is gluten-free, and the dishes are also available as vegan on request. They have special drinks, too. So, drag your bones to Tahmela and fill your belly up with the theme-day’s specialities!
